Local MP Zac Goldsmith visits Thames Young Mariners
On Wednesday 22 May, our Thames Young Mariners centre had a visit by Zac Goldsmith local MP for Richmond Park and North Kingston.
He was the guest of our regular visitors, Happy Learners, who come to us weekly with their homeschooled students for their group sessions.
Mr Goldsmith had plenty of questions from the young people in both the junior and senior groups specifically around the environment.
Topics included the carbon tax, electric cars, environmental laws post Brexit, subsidies on fossil fuels from the senior group, and questions from the junior group on how laws are passed in Parliament, how he felt on his first day in parliament and why he wanted to be an MP.
Suffice to say there is an increasing hunger from the young people to learn about the world around them and what's being done to protect it.
Mr Goldsmith commented about how he regularly visits schools and meets groups at the Houses of Parliament and environmental questions are now a key priority for young people.
