Alternative Learning

Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development can work with a variety of young people who require support with their education (from primary through to tertiary education).

The young person can benefit from our high-quality outdoor learning experience and opportunities at any of our sites or the surround areas.

By working with referring organisations, we can build a package that works with other education that they are doing.

We can work in a 121 environment or as a small group of less than 6.

Our programs are designed to the young person and determined learning outcomes.

Here are some past programs examples:

      • 121 work focusing on growth mindset skills in new environments
      • Supporting curriculum subjects focusing on Maths and English using the outdoors
      • Developing skills for transitioning to Secondary School
      • Personal and social skills development with the aim of returning to a school placement
      • Post 16, including work experiences and employability skills

The SOLD Alternative Learning Programs are open to the following

    • Young people with a current EHCP
    • Young people who are linked to Surrey County Council or other local authority
    • Young people who are at risk of exclusion from school

The referral must come from a professional. We cannot accept referrals from parents/carers at this stage. Seek advice from your educational provider.

Referrals are made by emailing SOLDalternative.learning@surreycc.gov.uk and completing a referral form that you will be sent to you.

SOLD are offering a full day program.

Our day starts from 9.30am and finishes at 3.30pm

  • The project is for 1 term.
  • Reviews will take place at 4 and 8 weeks.

We have the potential to work with 121 or group in an outreach capacity at school if appropriate.
