Outdoor Learning Support for Schools
With increased OAA (outdoor and adventurous activities) on the Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 PE curriculum, SOLD (Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development) has been working with primary schools to integrate outdoor learning within their curriculum in a variety of ways including (but not limited to):
- Integrating day and residential visits to any of our outdoor learning centres within the curriculum - linking with key subjects.
- Training and Development of staff including Outdoor Learning Card Training – ideas and suggestions for development outdoor learning activities for teachers in primary schools.
- Making better use of school grounds for OAA, including mapping and creation of orienteering course
- Consultancy with your school to identify ways to increase OAA within curriculum
- Outreach Team at your school – outdoor learning service brought to you.

Outreach in your school grounds
Our outdoor learning experts come to you and deliver a wide range of outdoor learning programmes in your school grounds.
We will create a bespoke programme for your individual needs and could include curriculum linked activities or programmes to support the health and wellbeing of your children.
Day visit to our outdoor learning centres
We can offer outdoor learning programmes to take place at our three outdoor learning centres, which have extensive outdoor natural space.
CPD, advice and guidance for schools to deliver outdoor learning safely
We have designed a specific CPD (Continuing professional development) training programme to help teachers deliver outdoor learning in their own school grounds in line with safety guidelines.
We have also collated a number of resources to give you ideas about how to do this.
Our support packages offer the assurance of:
- All activities to take place in the outdoors
- Working with small groups of children max: 8 per instructor
- SOLD staff fully trained, DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checked
- Substantial pre-visit planning time with our team to give you and your parents total reassurance
- Bespoke nature means we work with you to meet your requirements
Our outreach team travel all across Surrey, London and beyond providing high quality outdoor learning experiences.
We can provide a range of accessible, enjoyable and engaging outdoor activities at schools, youth centres, high-profile events, your workplace, your back garden and most other places provided there is enough space.
We deliver a range of positive activities and learning experiences (through informal education) to improve personal and social development while working towards identified desired outcomes.
