SEN and disability groups

At SOLD, we believe that outdoor experiences can and should benefit any and every person, regardless of physical, mental or psychological needs.

From training, planning and delivery, to equipment and building new facilities, inclusion is always front of mind in every aspect of our work.

We believe that the benefit of learning, developing and enjoying oneself in the outdoors are for everyone, no matter their needs. This is especially true for young people for whom opportunities for personal development are vital.

Our instructors have extensive experience in working with young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and disabilities in groups with mixed needs and abilities.

Off-Road Wheelchairs

We are lucky enough to host four specialist off-road wheelchairs designed by Equal Adventure. This equipment enables wheelchair users and participants with mobility needs to move easily across outdoor terrain at all our centres and beyond.

Kite Harnesses for Climbing and Abseiling

We provide specialist kite harnesses for climbing and abseiling at High Ashurst. Using this equipment, visitors with mobility needs can climb and abseil in a variety of different ways. For instance, they can choose to be hoisted by themselves, by the instructor or by others in their group, or they can climb assisted by one of our instructors.

The Angel Blue Canal Boat

The Angel Blue is our 65-foot canal boat. The Angel Blue is a wide-beam craft and was purpose-built to enable wheelchair users to undertake voyages on the canal ways. The boat is boarded via ramp and lift access and the specially widened passageway offers easy access to all parts of the craft. Take a virtual tour of Angel Blue.
