Many of our The Adventure Zone (TAZ) young people come regularly to TAZ multi activity days during the school holidays and enjoy trying the many activities on offer, having fun and making new friends.
TAZ Pro which is our brand new range of one and two day courses at High Ashurst in Mickleham near Dorking during the school holidays.
They are suitable for young people aged 9 to 13 years and focus on a particular activity which will enable them to develop their skills.
Courses will launch with the introduction level and longer term will develop with intermediate and advanced levels.
TAZ Pro courses are offered in:
- Mountain Biking
- Climbing
- Bushcraft
All courses are led by highly experienced instructors to ensure safety, learning a wide range of skills and to have fun.
Each participant will receive a certificate upon successfully participating their chosen course.
Further courses will be offered to develop further in school holidays throughout the year.

Drop off and pick up time

What to wear
- Appropriate clothing for the weather: jumper, trousers, long sleeved t-shirt
- Waterproofs, for rainy and windy days
- Sun cream and sun hat
- Warm coat
- Hat and gloves
Lunch
Your child will need to bring a packed lunch. For the safety of others on site, please ensure that this lunch does not contain nut products.

Friendship groups on TAZ Holiday Activities
If you feel it is very important that your child need to be with specific friend, we will do our best to accommodate your request, please mention your child's friend at sign in.
Our fully qualified instructors will inspire everyone to achieve and learn while spending the day having bags of fun.
Day session: 9.30am to 12.30pm and 1.15pm to 4.15pm with 45 minutes lunch break. All safety equipment is provided.
There are no vending facilities on-site.
Don't forget to bring a packed lunch
Your child will need to bring a packed lunch. For the safety of others on site, please ensure that this lunch does not contain nut products and plenty to drink (water bottles can be refilled).
Due to rare unforeseen circumstances, for instance: bad weather, damaged equipment, the activity sessions may adapt and in some cases may be substituted for an appropriate alternative.
TAZ courses and activities are only bookable online.

Please wear long trousers or leggings (not jeans), a long sleeved top and trainers. Please be prepared for all weathers by wearing layers and bring waterproofs as you will be outside all day and in all weathers.

Introduction to Mountain Biking
2 day course for 9 to 13 year olds
What to expect
A two-day skill coaching course for young people aged 9 to 13 year olds with basic mountain biking skills.
They will learn and develop:
- Bike and equipment safety checks
- Develop and build upon basic skills over the two days onsite
- How to move around and over obstacles
- Navigation of the onsite skills course at High Ashurst
- Plan a ride route on a map and learn how to navigate different terrains
- Basic bike repairs
- Both days you will go offsite for different rides in the afternoons to put your onsite learning and practise into action!
Pre requisites
Participants should be confident and fit enough to ride and control a bike safely on a variety of terrains (flat and inclines) for at least 4 hour off road ride as part of a group.
What to bring for your mountain biking day and what to wear
You can bring your own mountain bike but our staff will need to check it to ensure it is safe to use on the course. (If not deemed suitable, you will be provided with one of our mountain bikes).
- We will provide safety assured helmets for all participants when you arrive.
- If you have mountain biking gloves and glasses, please also bring them otherwise we do have some you can borrow.
- Wear long trousers/leggings that are not flappy around the ankles (not jeans), a long sleeved top and trainers.
- Be prepared for all weathers by wearing layers and bring waterproofs as you will be outside all day and in all weathers.
- Remember a packed lunch and a water bottle that will fit into a bike cage or a backpack with water bottles.
- Please ensure that all long hair is tied back for the duration of the course.

Bushcraft course
1 day course for 9 to 13 year olds
For budding outdoor explorers, this introduction to Bushcraft survival day is suitable for 9 to 13 year olds to develop their outdoor survival skills.
Be prepared for outdoor adventures and learning woodland survival skills under the close supervision of your Bushcraft leader.
You will learn and develop:
- Foraging and identifying types of wood for carving into survival equipment
- Using saws and knives to collect and carve your wood
- Discover different fire lighting techniques
- Cooking snacks over a fire from basic provisions
- Making a natural soap from foraged ingredients – you still need to be clean when you are surviving outdoors!
- Basic navigation skills using natural resources so you can find your way
- How to build the most effective den to shelter in the wild
Introduction to climbing
2 days for 9 to 13 year olds
What to expect
A two-day introduction course for young people aged 9 to 13 years who have an interest in climbing, abseiling and traversing and wish to develop their skills and independence in this activity.
They will learn and develop key skills including:
- Correct fitting of safety equipment – helmet and harness
- Different knot options for tying in
- Belay someone safely with a belay device
- Climbing techniques
- Assisting participants with traversing, climbing and lowering
- Effective communication between climber and belayer
- Climbing routes from easy to medium and hard
- Upon completing this course, participants should be able to demonstrate skills that will allow them to climb on an indoor climbing wall
Pre requisites
To have an interest and some basic experience of climbing and a desire to develop these skills.
