Feeding childrens' imagination by linking natural outdoor foraged objects to a story of why it could have become into existence. Be as creative and imaginative as you can!
Suitable for: Year 3
Curriculum areas covered: Literacy – Language skills, storytelling, creativity
Duration: 30 minutes
Safety: Parental supervision
Materials required:
- A bowl
- A blindfold (a scarf will do)
- Forage for some natural items to put into the bowl/on the tray
- Paper & pen/pencil
- A creative imagination!
What to do:
Put several natural items in a bowl or on a tray (this could be a stick, blade of grass, stone, leaf, etc.). The blindfolded participant(s) then have to pick an item from the bowl and when they open their eyes and see which item they have selected, they then take it in turns to make up a story about the life of the item. Along their journey, they have to meet each of the other items in the bowl/on the tray.
For example, if a stick was pulled out of the bowl:
He was happy in his tree, but one day a bird sat on his branch and he snapped off. His leaf friend, Greg tried to catch him, but he plummeted to the ground. Luckily, he landed softly on a daffodil. The daffodil wasn't very happy and drooped her leaves so he fell onto the soil, next to a rock. He and the rock became friends and he enjoyed the company, but he missed his old friend, Greg the leaf. The seasons passed, and in autumn, the leaves began to fall. Finally Greg and the stick were united!
The story could be different every time but using the same foraged objects, the only limit is your imagination.
